Hammer mill working principle stone crusher machine

The hammer mill is a machine used for crushing or grinding various materials into smaller pieces by the repeated blows of hammers. It is commonly used in industries such as mining, building materials, and metallurgy for crushing materials like stones, coal, and other minerals.

The working principle of a hammer mill is as follows:

Material is fed into the hammer mill chamber: The material to be crushed or ground is fed into the hammer mill chamber through a gravity or pneumatic feed inlet. The material may be dry or moist, and it is usually fed in large chunks.

Hammers strike the material: Inside the hammer mill chamber, a rotating rotor with several hammers attached to it spins at a high speed. As the rotor rotates, the hammers swing outward due to centrifugal force and strike the material with great force. The hammers may be fixed or free-swinging, depending on the design of the hammer mill.

Material is crushed or ground: The repeated blows from the hammers crush or grind the material into smaller particles. The size of the crushed or ground particles depends on the speed of the rotor, the size and shape of the hammers, and the type of material being crushed. Smaller particles pass through the screen at the bottom of the hammer mill chamber, while larger particles remain in the chamber for further crushing or grinding.

Discharge of crushed or ground material: The crushed or ground material is discharged from the hammer mill through the screen at the bottom of the chamber. The size of the screen openings determines the size of the final crushed or ground particles. The screen can be changed to achieve different particle sizes as needed.

Collection of crushed or ground material: The crushed or ground material is collected in a container or conveyed to a downstream process for further processing or use.

Overall, the working principle of a hammer mill involves the repeated impact of hammers on the material, resulting in crushing or grinding of the material into smaller particles.
